Just upgraded from Xubuntu 13.04 to Xubuntu 13.10, and got the issue of the sound indicator not working. (64bit system.)
I did the workaround described in http://askubuntu.com/questions/360806 /volume-indicator-issue-after-xubuntu-13-10-upgrade It worked.
