Public bug reported:
Niether Ubunut Fiesty nor Gusty boot the install cd on Everex StepNote SA Series
Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2080 @ 1.73GHz 1.73 GHz
1015 MP (RAM)
32bit
I'm atempting to install Ubuntu in the Everex machine. The live Ubuntu
Install CD doesn't boot. I think it may be a kernel problem because the
there are also problems with debian. The debian install cd installs but
once installed the sistem does not boot. To rule out that the problem
was somehow debian related, i installed slackware, which installs but
the installed system does not boot.
the boot generally hangs on what i believe to be hard disk detection:
[ 3.184000] ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x000101f0 ctl 0x000103f6 bmdma
0x0001ffa0 irq 14
[ 3.184000] ata2: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x00010170 ctl 0x00010376
sometimes it hangs after harddisk detection with and ACPI messege or
ethernet driver messeges:
8139too Fast Ethernet driver 0.9.28
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:03:04.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
it hangs there and if leave it a while it the machine turns off. there
is no kernel panic or other noticable error. often it hangs in anthor
point in the boot process. i've done a memory test tried with acpi off
routeirq option lapic and apic off. nothing works.
the only way i've managed to boot into linux is by telling the slackware
install cd to boot from the slackware particion. this only worked once
and now it hangs on setting the system time from the hardware clock. the
messege interior has to do with the hard disk:
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC262, trying to auto-probe.
maybe its a problem with hard disk recognition?
