ebutler, thanks for the workaround, I will try it. In the meantime I tested at least the live version of the latest development version of ubuntu (trusty-desktop-amd64.iso 09-Jan-2014 07:51 910M) and found the same bug also there.
I am going to update the report according to what I was asked above. However, I think I will not try the latest kernel at the moment. I think that if the bug is really in xorg, then using a different kernel would not help.
