Test results of Gutsy on IBM Thinkpad R31 which has dual boot XP and Ubuntu Feisty installed and running so the hardware is O.K. The Gutsy Tribe 4 CD runs live on my IBM NetVista 2gHz P4 so the burn is O.K.
Gutsy Tribe 4 CD Live boot on the R31 proceeds until Gnome Desktop starts, then screen goes black. Tribe 2 Xubuntu CD Live correctly selects driver i810, screen resolution 1024x768. Tribe 4 Ubuntu selects VESA, no screen resolution (!) in xorg.conf. Ctrl-Alt-F1 gets text screen, and reading the xorg.conf comments says to try sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg. That script drops out after the first screen. Omitting -phigh (option that's been active starting with Feisty), script proceeds through and using settings that work on tribe 2, driver i810, 32768 kb, 1024x768, depth 24. sudo startx, "X" displays then R31 freezes. Ctrl-Alt-F1, anything I try, no response. Power off. Repeatable on Gutsy 20070814 and 20070816. If Tribe 5 runs on the Thinkpad R31 and NetVista I'll guts a try on the ThinkCentre which has sensitive programs files installed on the hard drive.
