Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-16-generic
Power saving seems not to work on HP Compaq 6715s RU658EA. This laptop
has Turion TL-58 on chipset ATI M690T. Frequency scaling works fine, but
even when running on the lowest frequency and in idle load, fan turns
too often up. I looked into /proc/acpi/processor/C000 and found out
this:
# uname -a
Linux lomilomi 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Thu Jun 7 19:00:28 UTC 2007 x86_64
GNU/Linux
# cat /proc/acpi/processor/C000/info

acpi id: 1

# cat /proc/acpi/processor/C000/limit

# cat /proc/acpi/processor/C000/power

max_cstate: C8

maximum allowed latency: 8000 usec

- (and the same values for second core). This bug is very inconvenient for
- laptop users, because it makes battery life much shorter...
