You seem to assume that when the slow printing occurs, some printing-related 
process wold be consuming a lot of CPU.
That is not the case.

I've just observed a superslow printing. It would print a line, then wait like 
10 seconds, then print another line, etc.
By the time I had found this bug report again (because I remembered you asked 
me to post the output of some command if it occurred again) printing was 
already finished. So I couldn't check top (which now I know is what I was 
supposed to check), but I can tell cpu usage had not become high because when 
it does, I notice the increase in the cooler fan speed.

I printed another document so that I could try what you ask but then the
printing happened at a normal speed.
