Also be sure that 1) you save the preferences and settings when it asks you. 2) That you don't have anything plugged into a USB port (I have had installs freeze for that reason. 3) That you have enough memory to get through the install.
If you are using a legacy system, another option is to install Lubuntu, which supports older processors and is less memory hungry and then add the desktop that you want through the synaptic package manager.
