Christopher, Thanks for your information. I've looked into the BIOS upgrade options, and the only viable means seems to be to install Windows on the machine via the recovery disk and then upgrade the BIOS using the utility provided by HP. I don't have a spare SATA drive for this immediately available, so am going to have to wait to do this until I get one. That may take as long as two or three months. I'll report back once I've done that. I don't want to break an otherwise perfectly running machine by overwriting my current Ubuntu installation.
