I have gotten the sound recorder to work, I installed the gnome alsa mixer and noticed the sound card listed was an oss, I also installed alsa-oss, and opened all muted volumes in the gnome mixer. As of now I can only get the sound recorder to record flac. I also had not tried the save as in the file section of sound recorder, on the dapper version this was on the main screen. I am not sure what has gotten it to work it may have been several factors.
