Now the newest version in the official repository (331.38-0ubuntu2) breaks the X. I have tried this with the nvidia graphics card 285GTX and with the package nvidia-331_331.38-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb and with the newest kernel 3.13.1 from mainline. X will not start and only console is left to use.
