I'm not sure when exactly this behavior changed but in Precise if I open
synaptic, type 'mozilla-plugin' into the Quick filter, scroll down to
'firefox-launchpad-plugin', and mark it for installation (or removal if
installed) that window retains it's position. But in Trusty if I follow
the same process that window springs back to the top after marking
'firefox-launchpad-plugin'.

It would be interesting to know if this behavior effects any other apps.
