Which driver are you using? foo2zjs or hpijs? The HP LaserJet 1022
support principally also PCL (hpijs driver), but PCL printing is slow
and unreliable with this printer, most probably due to a weak CPU and a
too low amount of memory in the printer. To make the printer really
reliably work, foo2zjs is the better driver. I have a 1022 here and it
prints perfectly with foo2zjs, even in 1200x600 dpi (not available with
hpijs),

So choose the foo2zjs driver when setting up the printer.

I see now that in Edgy foo2zjs is installed, but there is no PPD file
for the HP LaserJet 1022 with foo2zjs. foo2zjs is also from January
2006, which is probably too old to support the LaserJet 1022. So both
the foomatic-db and foo2zjs packages need to be updated.

For now can you simply choose the LaserJet 1020 as your printer model?
This works for me.

So to really fix this bug foo2zjs and foomatic-db need to be updated.
