Got same bug. Compaq Mini 110, fresh install of Xubuntu 13.10.
'Settings Manager->Keyboard->Application Shortcuts' then remove XF86Display
shortcut. It's ugly but worked for me.
Two things I figured out (may be helpful):
1. There are shortcut XF86Display defined which launches xfce4-display-settings
application.
2. On the button lid switches this shortcut is triggered (OS thinks XF86Display
key pressed?):
a) If suspend to RAM is enabled, it happens once at closing notebook lid (when
lid opens xfce is still sleeping I guess);
b) If suspend to RAM is disabled, it happens twice (one at close and one at
open).
