I had a similar problem with booting a live CD ubuntu gnome 13.10, just
could not boot it on a Packard Bell TE69KB, so I ended up, by disabling
the secure boot and UEFI in the BIOS plus fastboot in win8. I could then
boot the live DVD. At this point, I decided to keep this config and try
to install ubuntu 13.10. Big mistake, as it installed but the win8 was
still there along with some other partitions. I then uninstalled ubuntu
. Then i installed ubuntu 13.10 secure by using the whole disk, as I
didn't want win8 on the machine at all!!. This has worked out OK, but
there is now a problem with the boot-up, there is an error but it still
boots up into ubuntu 13.10. There is also a problem with it not shutting
down properly, which I'm sure can be fixed either through the BIOS
config or graphic card config. Anyway, enough of my ranting, hope this
helps somebody.
