Another indication of a mount problem is occurring on my desktop running 14.04. Very intermittantly a message will show up on the gnome splash screen that a USB external drive failed to mount with the options to "S" skip or "M" mount manually. Replying "S" the boot completes but in checking the external device is mounted correctly. This message has only occurred on 14.04, have both 13.10 and 13.04 on this system.
