You fixed the problem by your clear and short command sequenze.
1. Checkin as root
2. apt-get remove --purge plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text
3. apt-get install plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text
4. restart the machine
5. look for updates
6. install latest updates
7. Problems are fixed and no errors will be mentioned any more.
