Thanks. I'll try to keep my eyes open should it happen again. On a different issue, I haven't had time to check the threads for similar problems, or report this bug but yesterday Edubuntu 7.04 for PPC (G3 to G5) failed to install at all on my iBook (Clamshell type with a 366mghzCPU). I downloaded the live CD version and the live CD bootup would fail to complete booting. I would get to the user logon which said ubuntu user will logon in 10 seconds. Well, in 10 seconds it would begin booting the ubuntu user and when the desktop just starts to appear, the screen goes blank and 15 seconds later the logon process repeats. I could not logon to create my own user name and although I could only boot into failsafe mode, any attempt to add a user resulted in having to use sudo. Assuming the real root is off as in the Mac I tried but here using the ubuntu user's blank password resulted in a wrong password or username error message. I couldn't even get as far as changing ubuntu's password in order to succeed in using sudo becasue a message advises I need to use sudo in order to change ubuntu's password! Classic chicken and egg dilemna - which came first? But in reverse because I couldn't get to first base. The same CD successfully booted and installed on a 350 MH iMac (Indigo) but that installation fails near the end of the boot process. Just how many people are working on the PPC version (G3s to G5s) now that intel Macs have come out? I had been hoping to use Edubuntu on our school's slew of legacy iMacs but it looks like 6.10 Edgy Eft? is the last version that will work well on them. I really want to be able to use Kino but it seems Kino doesn't work well if at all on anything less than 7.04 Fiesty Fawn (sic?). Are the codecs that the intel i386 version of Ubuntu uses the same as those that the PPC version uses or are they platform specific?
If you think this is worth posting or pursuing, please do. I really don't have time to retry downloading a fresh copy of the same CD for the PPC. The last time I did it, I had downloaded and burned it on a Debian sarge system that has since gone kaput. I would imagine that there are a lot of people dissatisfied with Mac OSX Jaguar and with no budget to buy Mac OSX Panther to replace it with. Edubuntu offers alot more open source software than Panther does without costing anything but after experiencing the difference between Edubuntu 6.10 and 7.04 (i386) I would prefer Edubuntu 7.04 over Edubuntu 6.10 forthe PPC on the iMacs at my school..
