First, I want to say that I am very happy that Gavin fixed this :-)
My comment about developers hating case-sensitive passwords was actually in 
reference to bug 47594, which this one is technically a duplicate of. In 
Comment #2, as he was marking the bug WONTFIX, Justin said:

Admittedly, once THIS bug got opened, the discussion was much more
positive... (Come to think of it, that appears to have largely been due
to Gavin's influence as well :-) )
