I'm using regular headphones, not an headset. I'm currently unable to test headsets, but in any case there should be no background noise with regular headphones.
I posted about this issue in the Dell forum and waiting for someone to answer, I expect some support from them since a variant of this laptop is sold with Ubuntu.
