We are closing this bug report because it is impossible to solve in
sound way for technical reasons. Mounting floppy drive automatically is
blocked by a physical design flaw present in the drives. The drives lack
sensor for disk insertion, meaning that the only way to detect whether a
floppy is in drive is to attempt to use it - causing motor activity
which means small amount of noise and electricity consumption. Likewise
the drive is unable to notify the OS when a disk is ejected, causing
further problems in the implementation, causing problems in syncing the
data to the disk in a reliable way.
The newer Ubuntu distributions should handle however the manual workflow
for using floppy disks slightly better than the Breezy for which the
original report was made for. We hope that this is sufficient.
