When you say "latest" xubuntu, does that mean Xubuntu 14.04/Trusty? If
it's still occurring there, that would be noteworthy. Otherwise this bug
was fixed in synaptic 0.80.3 (available in Trusty) and is a duplicate of
bug 1135687 .
