Atit, indicator-network is intended to replace the network-manager
applet eventually. If you have both installed, then having two network
icons is expected.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be enough information here to deal
with the other problem you describe.
What kind of network are you trying to join? Is it a closed network?
Could you attach a screenshot of the window that appears?
