Thank you for your report.
Since this is the intended behaviour, I don't think it qualifies as a
bug in the augeas package in Ubuntu. Augeas upstream would be a better
venue for discussing this sort of change - particularly since changing
the tree would break everyone else relying on the existing behaviour.
Since this is not a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Invalid in
Ubuntu, but feel free to raise the issue elsewhere, or even to continue
to discuss it here.
