The underlying issue is tracked in

AFAIU the two reports tracked related, but different issues: the
underlying issue is bug #171795, whereas this one tracked issues with
the current state (<img> references to SVG documents are rendered via
gkd-pixbif loader) due to packaging of Inkscape outside of linux. If
this report now gets reinterpreted as being about the underlying issue,
I think it should better be marked as duplicate of bug #171795 (than
having two separate reports now tracking the same underlying issue)
