Christopher, I experienced another lock-up yesterday... I ended up putting some time in and removed the propiretary nVidia drivers. That allowed me to install the latest kernel.
I'm currently testing with 3.14.0-031400rc6-generic. Unfortunately it may take days for the bug to surface, so I'll update accordingly.
