Summary : startxfce4 does not trigger the bug. I ran "startxfce4 -- :1" because another user session exists on :0 . Session started normally, with a window telling about first xfce session (I created the account for the purpose of the tests) and offering default or empty settings. I chose default and had a normal XFCE desktop. Then I logged out and tried again logging in the same used through lightdm. The bug appeared again as described yesterday. On this test I used the "switch user" feature to preserve session :0 Yesterday, I had no such constraint (I even restarted lightdm) and bug appeared also. So, this seems to be related to lightdm (independently of "switch user" feature).
