I notebook was connected to an external screen through its docking
stations ( HP compatible) . I took of the notebook without siwtch off.
with my 12.04 ,my notebook stayed alive and when I open the notebook
screen my notebook is OK.

with trusty ,  i did the same movement but my notebool screen stayed off
and I needed to do a hard shutdown & reboot.
