Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

An xorg.conf in my home directory (/home/reuben) is read in preference
and/or interferes with the system xorg.conf in /etc/X11. There are
several users on the system; my user is the primary one, however (i.e.
the one who did the install.)

This behaviour is confirmed with the following test:

1) With no xorg.conf present in /home/reuben, reboot the system. X loads
correctly (which is to say that my 3 monitors are present in the correct
layout.)
2) Copy erroneous xorg.conf into /home/reuben, reboot the system. X loads
incorrectly.
3) Remove erronous xorg.conf from /home/reuben, per #1. X loads correctly again
per #1.

I was pulling my hair out over this bug for a while, as I have been
modifying parameters in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, because the monitor layout
was wrong. NOTHING made a difference. Finally I realized that I had an
old xorg.conf backup sitting in my home dir, and moved that as an
experiment. Instant results.

This contradicts the behaviour that the manual page lists. And, in any
case, on system boot, it should be running as root, and not as me,
correct?
