Hi, I also have the same problem. I tried twice to run 'dpkg --configure -a'. It successfully finished, but problem was not solved. If I try to run apt-get or synaptic, it writes the same message. I use Kubuntu Feisty, I installed it 2 days ago on my new laptop, I installed common packages like MPlayer, Firefox, GIMP, Krusader, codecs for video files, samba, apache+mysql+php, proftpd, but all these packages I use on my desktop over 5 month and I have never had this problem...
