I tried the Restricted Drivers tool but when I clicked on the NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver it told me that it could not install nvidia-glx-new. So I ran it manually and then rebooted. Solving the problem was easy for me. I uninstalled nvidia-glx-new, ran dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and when back at the GUI, grabbed the drivers straight from NVidia's website and that worked just fine. BUT, installing nvidia-glx-new should have taken care of everything and not messed everything up. A less Linux savy user would have either needed to reinstall or would just dump Ubuntu all together for not working right.
