Hi, I have EXACTLY the same issue as dnprossi with the same symptoms and similar software configuration. There is no way to get to kdm KDE login window, just "black screen" and no activity at all... Ctrl-Atl-Cancel useless... Computer freezes..., just like for dnprossi.
I am using Kubuntu gutsy gibbon with all packages dist-upgraded to the most recent version. Using Linux desktop-pc 2.6.22-10-generic kernel + xserver-xorg v1:7.2-5ubuntu7 + xserver-xorg-core v2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ub + xserver-xorg-video-ati v1:6.6.193-1ubuntu1.
