Public bug reported:

using virtualbox 4.3.10 - with the latest updates, either the shutdown
or restart options displays the logout dialog instead. Clicking logout
indeeds log the user out - not shutdown as chosen.

There doesnt appear to be anyway to shutdown other than via a terminal
"sudo shutdown now"
