Public bug reported:

The process still runs but does not respond to media key presses.

After this condition is noticed, test clicking on the desktop/root
window to clear focus does not alter the media key functions. Pressing
volume up, down, or mute has no effect.

This functionality returns after commanding:
pkill -15 xfce4-volumed; xfce4-volumed

This is usually noticed after running gzdoom (v1.8.4).
