The same problem in ubuntu 12.04. I use a computer with AMD and Nvidia graphics card. I tried various methods without much result. Replace compiz, replace metacity. Uninstall compiz, uninstall metacity . Install and use gnome desktop. I installed Fedora 17 and i not escaped from error. I reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 several times, sometimes formatting the HDD before. Sometimes the error go away for a while and then coming back. etc.
