Hello,
I had also this issue randomly a dozen times since I bought the laptop in
august. I had to buy the specific screwdriver to open the back and unplug the
battery, if I want to avoid 3 long hours of non productiviy.

I spent a lot of time with the Dell support, because for me this is a
hardware issue; they changed motherboard+battery last week, and it
happened again today. I still have the shipped ubuntu 12.04 version, but
with newer kernel (3.8). The bios version has been automatically updated
when changing the motherboard (A10), and still the same.

The support advised to try to update the system. Waiting for Trusty
Tahr, will see what is says. I don't know if this issue happens also on
Windows.

** Also affects: ubuntu
   Importance: Undecided
