I just attempted a USB install from the server iso as well. And ran into the same issue.
Attached is the message I receive during grub installation. I pulled my usb media stick before I allowed it to continue. The error is showing that it tried to install grub on my usb stick. If i had left the stick in, it would've wiped out the boot loader on my usb stick. ** Attachment added: "Installer attempting to install grub on /dev/sda (USB Media)" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer-netboot-images/+bug/1309349/+attachment/4087709/+files/grub%20failure.jpg ** Summary changed: - Trusty Tahr 14.04 LTS Netboot install from USB media attempts to install grub on /dev/sda (USB media) instead of actual boot partition + Trusty Tahr 14.04 LTS Netboot or Server install from USB media attempts to install grub on /dev/sda (USB media) instead of actual boot partition -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309349 Title: Trusty Tahr 14.04 LTS Netboot or Server install from USB media attempts to install grub on /dev/sda (USB media) instead of actual boot partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer-netboot-images/+bug/1309349/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
