You are right.
My laptop is using nVidia GeForce 310M (GT218M) graphics chip.
So I've opened Software & Updates -- Additional Drivers:
And have switched selection from "Using X.Org X server - Nouveau display driver 
from xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (open source)" to "Using NVIDIA binary driver - 
version 331.38 from nvidia-331 (proprietary, tested)".

After applying changes and rebooting this bug has disappeared.
Resuming from suspend mode works fine now.

It's a kind of workaround for me.
But I'm sure this 'broken suspend' bug should be fixed in the open source 
Nouveau display driver.
