Public bug reported:

A recent X.org upgrade for Gutsy (within a couple of weeks) makes X.org
fail to detect my laptop's native resolution (1280x800), and defaults
instead to 1024x768.

The hardware:

System76 Gazelle: Intel 945GM graphics, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GiB RAM

The most obvious hint I can see in the logs is this:

Mode: 3c (0x0)
  ModeAttributes: 0x0
  WinAAttributes: 0x0
  WinBAttributes: 0x0
  WinGranularity: 0
  WinSize: 0
  WinASegment: 0x0
  WinBSegment: 0x0
  WinFuncPtr: 0x0
  BytesPerScanline: 0
  XResolution: 0
  YResolution: 0
  ...

In the logs for my (correctly-functioning) Feisty install, I instead
have this:

Mode: 3c (1280x800)
  ModeAttributes: 0x9b
  WinAAttributes: 0x7
  WinBAttributes: 0x0
  WinGranularity: 64
  WinSize: 64
  WinASegment: 0xa000
  WinBSegment: 0x0
  WinFuncPtr: 0xc00076a3
  BytesPerScanline: 1280
  XResolution: 1280
  YResolution: 800
  ...

Most of the Mode entries in the log are like that, except for the
resolutions 1024x768 and below.

There aren't any more warnings or errors in the logs than there are in
the Feisty Log (that I saw).
