I have the same problem in my PHILIPS DVD+-RW SDVD8431. I can't write a normal CD via Nautilus CD Burner or Gnome-baker. Only write about 40% of the disk and then stop, whit error. I have Ubuntu 7.10 - the Gutsy Gibbon because Feisty fawn I had the same problem... The hard-drive working fine.
