Public bug reported:

My default loginmanager was gdm until the upgrade to Xubuntu 14.04. which
changed the default to lightdm. Since I often get stuck at the login screen
when booting my laptop. I can see the text box for the password and can also
see the cursor (static - not blinking) but cannot type anything in it. I am
always able to move the mouse pointer, the menus at the top right do work
sometimes, sometimes they don't. There were some cases where everything worked
after waiting for 1 minute, but more often I am stuck and pull the plug at this
point.
I now use gdm again, but can do further testing if required.
