Thanks Kakashi, I, too, no longer have any problems with Thunderbird. An update must have fixed it. I have Ubuntu installed on an old "legacy" machine, that I use mostly for amusement. I typically do not do e-mail on it. When I first installed it, I had this problem, and I wrote about the bug. But I have not checked Thunderbird for quite a while since - until now.
