I've encountered this issue during a Precise to Trusty dist-upgrade.
Error message:
Unpacking moreutils (0.50) over (0.45) ...
dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/moreutils_0.50_amd64.deb
(--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/errno', which is also in package errno
1.3-0ubuntu1
Reproduction instructions:
1) Install Ubuntu 12.04.4
2) sudo apt-get update
3) sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
4) sudo apt-get install errno moreutils
5) sudo reboot
6) If you use a VM take a snapshot
7) sudo sed -i s/precise/trusty/g /etc/apt/sources.list
8) sudo apt-get update
9) sudo apt-get dist-upgrade 2>&1 | tee upgrade.log
The issue - the file collision - is deeply buried in the upgrade log.
