This bug affects me too. ipod shuffle 4G; just trying to open the ipod in rhythmbox crashed rhythmbox. This is very annoying. With 13.10 and rhythmbox, I had finally found a way to sync my ipod without using itunes. The upgrade to 14.04 ruined it for me :( I still have my 13.10 install on an external HDD, so I can boot that and use it to sync, but that's a pretty crap workaround.
rhythmbox's debug output is strange.
