Ok, here's exactly what I did:
1. Reinstalled Ubuntu Gutsy 5 on my second partition.
2. On first boot I immediately ran Update Manager and installed all of the
updates.
3. I wasn't asked to, but for good measure I rebooted.
4. Immediately after rebooting I opened the Restricted Drivers Manager.
5. I put a check in "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (latest cards).
6. After it downloaded and installed the package I rebooted as prompted.
7. The xserver failed to load and I was dropped to the CLI.
8. I ran the commands as above and piped them to files on the desktop.
9. I ran "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" and got myself a working xorg.conf
10. Booted up and posted this.
