I can confirm this (Xubuntu 14.04 LTS). If the NVidia driver is used the placement grid extends over both screens, if the XOrg nouveau driver is used, it only is present on the primary (in my case left) screen, to which my additional screen is placed right of... Both my screens are the same dimensions (1920x1080), on a NVidia GeForce GTX 650 TI, connected through DVI.
