nautilus 2.18.1 (updated ubuntu at 29 august 2007)
I have a file.tif,
if this file is into a directory, going into that directory with nautilus
crashes nautilus.
Gimp open that file without problems, it may be a corrupted image or something
similar.
I can send you that file if you want.

Anyway, may be opening the preview icon nautilus crashes.
