** Description changed: I am running Ubuntu 64b 14.04 in a virtual machine under VMware Workstation 10.0.2. I use the open-vm-tools from the standard Ubuntu repository. The Ubuntu desktop automatically resizes when I resize the Workstation window. Unfortunately when I open System Setting > Displays and store the actual (arbitrary - non-standard) resolution (now for example 1696 x 1074) then after reboot and logging-in unity-settings-daemon shows a pop-up window with an extremely long error message beginning: ------ Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors none of the selected modes were compatible with the possible modes: Trying modes for CRTC 63 CRTC 63: trying mode 800x600@60Hz with output at 1696x1074@60Hz (pass 0) CRTC 63: trying mode 2560x1600@60Hz with output at 1696x1074@60Hz (pass 0) ------ + + The problem also appears after logout and login if the display + resolution changes meanwhile. Another minor bug is that the pop-up window does not have sliders and is several times taller than the screen. An inexperienced user must be hopeless after encountering a similar situation.
