I've done some debugging: http://askubuntu.com/questions/465412/how-
can-i-debug-why-gnome-settings-daemon-localeexec-is-not-started-on-login

My findings are that gnome-settings-daemon receives a SIGTERM when I
login, shutsdown and it does not start again.

I understand that this is not the intended behaviour. Should the SIGTERM
be sent to gnome-settings-daemon in the first place? If so, why isn't it
started again?

I've attached the syslog with gnome-shell debug enabled. You can see
gnome-settings-daemon starting, but not dying.
