It doesn't work in Xubuntu either. I was following the tutorial at http://www.liberiangeek.net/2013/04/enable-file-sharing-between-windows-8-and-ubuntu-13-04-raring-ringtail/
1. Install Xubuntu 14.04 from DVD 2. sudo apt-get install system-config-samba 3.
