Freezes are gone but keymap is mucked up after boot. Log out and back in
fixes it. What a pain.

** Description changed:

Desktop freezes for about 10 secs during startup. Panel0 is visible and
appears to be being correctly updated (netload and weather plugins
display and update normally). Touchpad and pointer appear to work.
Desktop unfreezes automatically and boot proceeds normally. Then get
- intermittant lockups where no windows or menus can be changed or moved,
+ intermittent lockups where no windows or menus can be changed or moved,
typing on keyboard doesn't do anything. Contents of active windows seem
to update correctly and with no loss of speed. Can switch to background
terminals (ctl-alt-f1..6) which function correctly. I haven'tbeen able
to spot anything strange in what is running during the lockups but I
don't really know what to look for or how to look.
